Why would I use the 4GPBX? Explain it to me.
The low-cost, instant business telephone system for small businesses No engineers, cabling or hardware required - just use your business smartphones as your phone system extensions But where does the 4GPBX come from? Here's a potted history The world of telephony is changing. In the past, if you wanted a phone system an engineer in a van would arrive, put a tin box on the wall and then wire up a whole bunch of extensions around the office. Later on, a network engineer from BT or another network operator would come by and connect you to the outside world using analogue or digital lines. (PSTN or ISDN) Back in the day this was great, simple and straightforward but then people demanded more features to improve communications in their business such as voicemail, 'Call Transfer' to external numbers and the need to see whether or not their colleagues are available for a call. In addition, the COVID pandemic taught us that we all needed to be flexible about our place of work. Today we are seeing a massive difference in technology as everything is now cloud-based including voice calls. Hosted telephony has changed the telecoms industry forever. 'so much so' that Openreach will no longer be providing or supporting physical phone lines to premises. So how does a business phone system work now? The service is in the cloud and ready to go. Numbers can be added from any U K local geographic code. Businesses can even add non-geographic free phone or national oh 3 numbers. So, how easy is it to have and use a 4GPBX? No tin box is required! Working from home or on the road? - no problem at all. Users connect via the internet using 4G or Wi Fi. An 'app' on a "smartphone" provides access to hundreds of standard features like voicemail to e-mail, conferencing, call recording and many, many more. With no cabling, no hardware, no engineer visits because now you simply use an App on your business smartphones.

Can I have desk phones?
The system is particularly suited to mobile, flexible working. We do however understand that in some circumstances a dedicated desk phone is appropriate e.g., for a central operator. We do have devices available for that use case. It is important that these devices do not then re-impose the restrictions of traditional telephony - that is why our desk devices do not need anything but power and Wi-Fi….No CAT5 is required. Please see here for details - https://www.4gpbx.com/
-
Do all users have to use their mobile?
No - not at all. Our soft client is suitable for Mobile (iOS and Android) and Desktop (MAC and PC). For certain uses, we also have desk phones. As your project manager for details.
-
What about people who use their personal phones?
Our APP can be run on personal phones with no security or cost implications. In fact, because our app uses so little data it can use Wi-Fi or 4/5G without costing the phone owner any significant amount. This means that you can probably roll this functionality to more people than you currently provide mobiles for. Importantly, this also helps users to separate their personal and business use. Personal use can use the phone itself and business use

What about operators?

-
Can I hold and transfer calls?
Yes, on all types of devices, you can hold and transfer calls between users. We also have a “presence” indication for main users, in the app and on ‘hard’ phones, so you can see if a particular colleague is free even before you try to transfer. Transfers can be announced and unannounced.
-
Can I record calls?
Yes - You can record all, or a percentage of calls and then retain the recordings for a pre-defined period of time. The cost is low for a short retention period and rises for a longer period. Please ask your project management team for pricing.
-
What numbers are displayed to customers when I call out?
We are able to display any number which you have the right to use, on your outbound calls. This can be set globally or user by user.
-
Is the system reliable?
Yes - very. The system actually resides in 3 separate data centres which are separated for security, but all within the UK. The tasks are split across them with one of the 3 always standing ready to step in if one of the other two suffers any issues. We also use several carriers for call traffic to minimise the possible disruption caused by our suppliers. Nothing is EVER 100% reliable, but we’re getting there.
-
What happens if a mobile is lost or an employee leaves with the software still on their phone?
We are able to disable any account instantly, so even if a phone is lost or stolen, the calls on our app remain under your control. Just because the app is on a phone does not guarantee it has rights to make calls.
-
Can I see if my colleagues are busy?
Our system has a system of BLF (busy lamp fields) or buttons which allow you not just to see the status of key colleagues but also their status. This is known as ‘presence’.
-
Will the software work on all phones?
The phone software will run on all iOS and Android phones which meet the minimum Operating System and Hardware standards outlined on this webpage.
